Thirty years ago today, (the mighty) Status Quo opened live Aid with 'Rocking All Over the World' and Paul McCartney appeared close to the end of the event performing 'Let It be'.

Did anyone on the board go?

Did you watch it on tv?

What artist did you enjoy?

What acts disappointed you?

Come on, let's have your thoughts about Live Aid, on that hot sunny Saturday in July back in 1985.

Ahhhhh Live Aid 1985!!! I watched it on TV, recorded it all on VHS. I truly believe that Live Aid 1985 was far ahead of its time!!! Great acts, great reunions such as Led Zeppelin and The Who!!! The Who were great, Led Zeppelin was awful!! The Stones were fighting at that time, particularly Mick and Keith!!!

I have managed to collect tickets for Live Aid 1985 both at Wembley and in Philadelphia as well as the collectors books!!!

I've also managed to collect the collectors books and tickets for Live 8 2005!

I also own both DVD sets for both Live Aid 1985 and Live 8 2005!!!

I'm a major lover of both concerts, I just wish that I would have seen both of them in person.

Watched it on TV and still remember the initial, aching disappointment that all we could hear was his piano. There is a huge cheer when Geldof and Bowie appear behind Paul and I think that for a split second a lot of people thought it was George and Ringo joining him.
All these years later I vaguely wonder if Hey Jude may have been a better song choice for the occasion? I totally get the message of "there will be an answer" in Let It Be, but Hey Jude would have been more of a mass singalong (as we've seen many times since). Might have been more of a "Queen" moment?

Down here Wembley ended early am, around 5 or 6am...something like thst.

I remember being caffeined up, determined not to get drowsy and word was a Beatles reunion with Julian eould be the closer; it was the mother of all letdowns to see Townsend, Bowie, Boomtown and bloody Alison Moyet (was it?) walk out to back Paul with what were appallingly bad backing vocals.

And of course the vocal mike calamity.

All through the broadcast, a man who should know, insisted it was happening, but of course it didn't. And on this, sadly his mail was (unusually for him), wrong.

Live Aid was one of those "do you remember where you were when..." moments.

By the way, having Status Quo open with Rocking All Over The World was genius!

I Have an idea. The DVD Live Aid is used very expensive . My idea a New DVD or Blue Ray remastered against the hunger in Africa. Also a New Live Aid is an idea...But the reissue is a good way to help. And he helps poor children.  Very Kind regards..Ingo
